Sources and References: Towards a Historiography of Cambodian Photography

This is a video recording of a presentation made on 9 April 2012 at the Invisible Photographer Asia Gallery. The talk was first presented on 9 March 2012 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore.

Titled Sources and References: Towards a Historiography of Cambodian Photography, the presentation highlights four sources and references to counter the mythology offered by curators who imagined that Cambodian photography emerged out of nowhere in the last decade or so.

Ruptures and Revival: Cambodian Photography in the Last Decade (Report)

I have been invited to guest curate a show at the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, titled Ruptures and Revival: Cambodian Photography in the Last Decade. Featuring seven bodies of work made in the last decade, this is the first attempt to showcase three "generations" of Cambodian photographers within the same setting. The show runs from 8 March to 1 April 2012.

Take a video tour (3:17) of the show here:

In this video (5:22), one of the participating artists Lim Sokchanlina talks about his photographic practice:

This is an article titled Mekong Spring: Cambodian Photography in the Last Decade that I have written recently for Asia Art Archive (HK) that contextualizes the history and historiography of photographies in Cambodia.
